Black Diamond Cirque 22 Review

The BD Cirque 22 is a blend of the proven Black Diamond trail running backpacks and the ski touring backpacks from the "Cirque" line.

Application and Fit:

The 22L volume is aimed at all ski tourers who enjoy fast-paced day ski tours. The carrying system immediately catches the eye; the backpack fits like a vest. In the various front pockets, some secured with zippers, bars, smartphones, and soft flasks can be easily stowed and kept within quick reach, and the backpack doesn't necessarily need to be removed for this.
The backpack is available in 3 back lengths (S, M, L), ensuring that everyone can find the right size. The fit can be further optimized or adapted to different layers of clothing using side cords. We found the fit to be excellent. The backpack fits like a glove and is barely noticeable on the trail; nothing wobbles even on descents.

Material and Features:

The second big difference: Unlike most lightweight ski touring backpacks, the Cirque is made of Dynex Nylon. Extremely robust and difficult to wear down even after long use.
The main compartment is divided into two sections. In the bottom compartment, accessible from the outside, wet skins and/or lightweight crampons can be easily stored, for example. The main compartment has a divider for avalanche equipment and a small valuables pocket on the back. The separation to the bottom compartment can also be opened with a zipper, creating one large main compartment.
Outside, there's a practical diagonal ski holder. All its components can be easily removed if needed. Additionally, 2 ice axes / ice tools can be attached, and there's a removable helmet holder. A rope can also be transported with the lid strap.
The Cirque can be opened and closed very quickly at the top with a drawstring closure.
Weighing 690g, it's an extremely lightweight yet super stable backpack.

Conclusion:

We take the backpack on every day ski tour. Everything important, such as avalanche equipment, a change of clothes, snacks, and drinks, finds its place. The backpack fits perfectly, and its features and material are second to none.
