For years, EE quilts have been among the best and lightest down quilts on the market. Enlightened Equipment is a pioneer in this field. The company offers a huge selection, and custom-made models can also be realized. Even today, all quilts are filled in Minnesota.

Revelation and Enigma?!

The most interesting models for thru-hikers are Revelation and Enigma. Both models are offered in different fill powers and various sizes. The main difference between these two models: The Revelation can be fully opened, while the Enigma has a closed foot box, making it even warmer. At chrispacks, you'll find the 20F version (limit range -6°C) in all common sizes. This is certainly the right fill power for most users, offering the widest range of use. At a weight of under 700g, it is truly ultralight and super warm!

Materials and Down Quality:

The shell material is super-light, down-proof 10D nylon. Some models even use only 7D nylon. While 7D is even lighter, 10D material is more durable.
The down used is normally 850 FP RDS certified duck down, or optionally 950 FP goose down. All quilts are filled at the factory in Minnesota.
The baffle construction is also special: The down can distribute optimally, preventing cold spots.
All quilts come with straps for the sleeping pad, a super-light stuff sack, and a cotton storage sack for home.
As with all quilts: You need a really well-insulated sleeping pad (with a high R-value!), and a warm hat.

Quilt or Sleeping Bag?

We are often asked in the shop what is better, a quilt or a sleeping bag? As almost always, there isn't one single right answer that fits everyone. A quilt is naturally always lighter than a sleeping bag, but that doesn't mean it should be the only decisive argument! We definitely recommend testing a quilt extensively before a big trip like the PCT, even in temperatures below 5°C. If you tend to get cold easily or like to sleep "bundled up," a sleeping bag is often the better choice. With a quilt, you have more freedom of movement and more of a "blanket" feeling.
