The new sleeping pads are lightweight and durable, but they are not indestructible. All pads in our range are tested for leaks by the manufacturers, so it is quite unlikely that a new, unused pad has a hole. If a hole occurs on the go, don't panic; it can almost always be easily repaired while traveling.

The most important thing is to avoid damage, so:

  • use a (tent) groundsheet if you use the pad without a tent
  • Check the area beforehand for sharp stones, branches, etc.
  • If you leave the sleeping pad in the tent (or car) during the day, be sure to let out air beforehand! If it gets hot, the pad can burst or delaminate.

If there is a small hole in the pad, no problem:

  • the most difficult part is usually finding the hole; if there's no water, you can hold your face very close to the pad – you'll feel the draft in your eye. At home, it also works well with soapy water and a sponge. The soapy water will bubble slightly at the hole... Mark or remember the spot.
  • Deflate the air.
  • clean the spot with an alcohol wipe, then apply a self-adhesive patch. The patch should be cut round and extend well beyond the hole (approx. 1cm).
  • If there's a longer tear in the pad, it gets a bit more difficult. Either use a longer strip of Tenacious Tape or Seam Grip adhesive.
  • Seam Grip is also good for repairing valves.
  • If your pad delaminates, meaning large bubbles appear on the surface, then internal bonds have come undone. There's nothing you can do yourself...
  • Please note that only small holes can be repaired with the repair kits included by the pad manufacturers. For larger issues, you will need extra material.

Storage at home:

  • Of course, clean and dry without UV radiation
  • If space is available, store the pad deflated and unpacked, e.g., on a cupboard.
