Review of the Nemo Kayu 15

Nemo has indeed become more well-known in Europe in recent years, mainly due to tent designs like the Hornet or the Tensor pads. However, the word that Nemo also makes great sleeping bags hasn't quite spread yet. All the more reason to try and test the Nemo Kayu; Nemo's ultralight 3-season down sleeping bag.

Facts:

The Kayu 15 is available in 3 lengths: women's version (-168cm), regular (-185cm), large (from 185cm).

The women's version has a different color and the zipper on the right (the men's versions have it on the left), so they can be coupled. The women's version is slightly heavier (1.15kg), but has more filling, and thus a comfort range of -8°(!)

The filling consists of impregnated 800 fill power duck down (RDS certified).

Temperature range: Comfort: -2°, Limit: -9°.

The sleeping bag can be compressed to 5.9L with the included compression sack.

First impressions:

The material feels very good and gives a stable impression. The inner lining, in particular, feels cozy. The down lofts well, a good sign of high-quality down filling. The cut is snug, which provides warmth quickly, but might feel too tight for hikers with a broader build. With almost 500g of filling, the Kayu 15 is definitely one of the warmer 3-season sleeping bags. The "Thermo Gills" also catch the eye; with the two zippers on the top, the width and internal temperature can be easily varied. The zipper with anti-snag protection is also a nice feature. The hood can be well adjusted, a draft collar and the thickly insulated draft tube of the zipper prevent heat loss. The dark grey material at the foot and head end is also waterproof. Practical if you ever brush against the tent. There is also a small valuables pocket.

Tested on Tour:

I had the sleeping bag with me on a multi-day tour in the Swiss Alps. I didn't push it to its temperature limit ;-). The sleeping bag was super warm. The narrower cut didn't bother me. The pack size is absolutely fine for such a warm sleeping bag.

Conclusion:

A lightweight, very warm 3-season down sleeping bag with absolutely high-quality workmanship. Weight and pack size are perfectly acceptable. Also a recommendation for long-distance hikes where you need to cover a wide temperature range. The narrower cut saves weight and increases thermal performance. I had no problem with it; it's best to try it out yourself.
