Wieso Ultraleicht Wandern?
In recent years, a lot, a great deal, has changed concerning trekking equipment. For years, there was (and still is) only standard equipment: backpack 65+ liters, 2.5kg; tent: 3kg... In the end, you would stumble around with 20kg+ of gear. Immobile, slow, and unhealthy.

Until Ray Jardine in the 90s kicked off a new way of thinking! Tarp instead of tent, stripped-down backpacks weighing less than a kilogram, quilts instead of sleeping bags...and much more. This often reduces the "baseweight" (equipment without water, food, and fuel) by 50%!

The advantages of ultralight trekking equipment are clear:

  • Greater distances can be covered more easily and quickly.
  • The strain on your body is reduced.
  • A more intense nature experience, less is definitely more here!
  • No matter how fit or old you are. Everyone benefits and has more fun!
  • Ultralight doesn't automatically mean ultra-spartan.
  • This approach then extends to the rest of the equipment and clothing; if you carry less, lighter shoes are sufficient, less weight makes a heavier jacket superfluous, etc.

After going through all "trekking development stages," I too am now an absolute ultralight fan! No matter how far and where your path takes you; whether it's a pilgrimage, an Alpine crossing, or one of the famous long-distance trails in the USA or elsewhere: At chrispacks, you'll find products and first-hand know-how for worldwide adventures!
